Harold and Maude is a dark romantic comedy directed by Hal Ashby, released in 1971. The film follows the unconventional relationship between two unlikely characters: Harold Chasen, a young man obsessed with death, and Maude, a lively 79-year-old woman who embraces life to its fullest.

Harold, played by Bud Cort, is a wealthy but troubled teenager who stages elaborate fake suicides to provoke a reaction from his detached mother. His life takes a turn when he meets Maude, portrayed by Ruth Gordon, at a funeral. Unlike Harold, Maude has a zest for life and a carefree spirit that challenges his morbid outlook.
