Set in the fictional European country of Zubrowka, "The Grand Budapest Hotel" follows the misadventures of Gustave H., a legendary concierge, and Zero Moustafa, a young lobby boy who becomes his trusted protégé. The story unfolds in the 1930s, during a time of political upheaval and impending war. Gustave is known for his exceptional service and his relationships with wealthy elderly women, one of whom, Madame D., bequeaths him a priceless Renaissance painting upon her mysterious death. When she is murdered, Gustave becomes the prime suspect and must prove his innocence. With the help of Zero, Gustave navigates a series of comedic and thrilling escapades, including a chase across the snowy Alps, encounters with a sinister villain, and a confrontation with the authorities.
