About the event

Thursday night movie club is for movie nerds to come together for an informal screening, chat film and enjoy the cinema experience, each week a different member gets to choose a movie and, if they wish, present it as well. This Weeks Movie will be presented by former Bellingen Video owner Matt Sincock, who writes;

"Molière - directed by Laurent Tirard (2007).

In a world full of way too many sombre, formulaic Hollywood biopics, Moliere is a refreshing comedy about the famous French playwright, Moliere (born Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, in 1622).

There is no way an American film would ever capture the life of a French man known in Western Literature as the master of comedy and sophisticated satires.

Instead, this French film revolves in an unknown period of Moliere’s life, ripe for subterfuge and repartee - the missing months between his release from prison and rejoining his acting troupe on the road.

Some of the scenes, like the lesson on the different breeds of horses and how to act like each type, will keep you chuckling long after the film finishes, every time you think of it.

Delightfully written, some of the lines actually lift straight from Moliere’s own works, 'Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme' and 'Tartuffe'.

Enchanting performances from the captivating Romain Duris, and the talented Laura Morante, combine with a lavish French cast and costumes, creating a throughly extravagant experience.

This film made me feel both inspired by beauty of life and art, and to ready laugh at its ridiculousness."
